CQ aka Cha Quan Wilder is a graduate from George Mason University with a Master’s in Education with a concentration in English as a Second Language (ESL) and a Bachelor’s in Administration of Justice. CQ has taught in Washington, D.C. as an ESL teacher for pre-k-8th grade and spent three years in early childhood education as a ESL pre-school and pre-kindergarten teacher. She was a literacy consultant for Paideia Institute for their published Latin book. She currently is the Language Acquisition and Family Literacy Manager at a D.C. public charter school and also a Professor at Prince George’s Community College and Howard Community College in Maryland.
CQ co-presented at the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) in February 2013 in Orlando, Florida and will present at the NABE conference in March 2016 in Chicago. Her classroom was highlighted in The Achievable Dream: College Board Lessons on Creating Great Schools written by Gaston Caperton and Richard Whitmore in 2012. She was awarded the first Community of Practice Award her first year as a lead teacher by her peers for the 2011/2012 school year and then again for the 2015/2016 and 2017/2018 school years as a leadership team member.
CQ has published a number of books. She is the creator of the Karla the Dog series about her Maltipoo dog Karla who explores the world around her in an academic and social way. She was born in Texas and has lived in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area for the majority of her life. She enjoys long walks, getting petted by people, and relaxing. Karla is very active and enjoys running very fast. She currently resides with CQ in Washington, D.C. and enjoys traveling on planes to fun destinations.
CQ has also co-authored Atlas: The Very Special Therapy Dog, The Knee-High Crew Embrace Health, and The Life Story of James Dewitt Yancey.
